How to take product photos with a phone (no studio)

A beginner-friendly setup for shooting clean product photos at home using only a phone and natural light.

Use soft, indirect light

Natural light from a window is the easiest way to get clean, even lighting. Shoot during the day, near a large window, but keep the product out of harsh direct sun to avoid blown-out highlights and hard shadows.

If one side is too dark, prop a sheet of white paper or card opposite the window to bounce light back onto the product.

Keep the background plain

A large sheet of white paper curved up behind the product gives you a seamless, clutter-free backdrop. Plain backgrounds make later background cleanup far more reliable.

Avoid busy tabletops, patterns, and visible seams behind the product.

Steady the phone and fill the frame

Rest the phone on a small tripod or a stack of books to avoid shake, and tap to focus on the product. Fill most of the frame with the product while leaving a little margin for cropping later.

Shoot at the highest resolution your phone allows so the image stays sharp when buyers zoom in.

Finish with cleanup and a square crop

Once you have a sharp photo on a plain background, clean the background, center the product, and export a square image for listing grids.

Compress as the final step so pages load fast without losing visible quality.
